Kew Gardens Winter Edition 2023 – Director of Care Message

Director of Care Message

Hi all!

I am excited to be a part of the family here at Kew Gardens and to add value in any way I can.
I have a long clinical and management background, having done my general training at the bedside at Liverpool District Hospital Liverpool NSW. I then went on to do my midwifery training at the same hospital. I feel honoured to have trained in this way, it allowed me to foster and grow my dedication and passion for nursing and caring for people, it has become my life’s work (no longer 21yrs old!).

I went on to work in the specialty fields of acute medicine, acute surgery, emergency department and once trained – midwifery. I went on to work 23 years with QLD Health, I was fortunate to be presented numerous wonderful opportunities, such as managing large divisions in major hospitals, managing services in far north QLD, e.g., Magnetic Island and Ingham Hospital, and working at and helping to build the new Gold Coast University Hospital. I’ve also managed a defence force hospital, working to provide care for all our military workforce.

I then came to Melbourne in 20 17, working in aged care with Freedom Aged Care/Aveo, at the beautiful Balwyn Manor. I then went on to also manage Lisson Grove in Hawthorn. Both were retirement living with 24hrs clinical care provision, such wonderful memories of my time there. I went on the work with Australian Unity (AU) managing large clinical projects and infection control across AU’s 8 sites. As with all of Australia, this was a challenging time during COVID to be sure, the learnings were immense. During this time, I gained a new qualification in infection control, which I use almost daily.

Finally, I am with you all at AACG, which is wonderful, lots of good work to do and great people to do it with and for. Please watch out for the notifications about the Resident and Representative Meetings for 20 23, catching up is so worthwhile. Please also complete the feedback cards ‘A moment for your thoughts’, or call into see me.

In the words of Joan Rivers: In every human endeavour, persistence is everything.

Warm regards,
Roberta Rossi
